The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Hester Peirce, known as "Crypto Mom," to lead a new cryptocurrency working group aimed at creating a comprehensive and clear regulatory framework for digital assets. This working group was initiated by SEC Acting Chair Mark Uyeda, shortly after the departure of former Chair Gary Gensler. The SEC acknowledges that it has primarily relied on enforcement actions to regulate cryptocurrencies in the past and stated that it will work with committee staff and the public to develop a new framework. Peirce is known for her advocacy of lighter regulation and her opposition to "regulating by enforcement."
