Ilya Lichtenstein has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in the 2016 Bitfinex exchange hacking incident and money laundering activities. Lichtenstein and his wife Heather Morgan conspired to launder approximately 120 thousand stolen Bitcoins, which were once worth up to 72 million dollars and have now reached 10.70 billion dollars, using methods such as crypto mixers, layered trading, and the dark web. Lichtenstein and Morgan admitted to money laundering charges related to this in August 2023. Morgan's sentencing is scheduled for November 18, with prosecutors recommending an 18-month sentence.
