Odaily Planet Daily reports that Jaime Lizarraga, a Democratic member of the five-person committee of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has announced that he will resign more than two years early. After the Trump administration takes office in January next year, the committee will be left with only two Republicans and one Democrat. Lizarraga, a former aide to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was appointed to a five-year term at the SEC in 2022; he cited his wife's poor health as a reason for his decision. The day before, SEC Chairman Gensler announced that he would leave the SEC on the day Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated. With Lizarraga's departure, the number of Republicans in the agency will outnumber Democrats from the first day of the new administration.
